This is poetry! I'm imagining the recent Taco Bell opening has brought this back to mind. And we've had some Zach Bryan fever in the interim too—when they said history rhymes I didn't think there was actually a specific rhyming scheme.
It really does seem like we're utterly defenseless in certain areas. No natural immunity to a foreign brand. Sure my mother says she remembers when they introduced the hot dog into Ireland—so I'd certainly buy the author's hypothesis.
